\u2018Meet the Artist\u2019 set for Friday, March 7<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Kirby Gallery in Roxboro is featuring the art works of Alyssa Hinton in March with \u201cThe Awakening Series: A Southeastern Odyssey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hinton, a resident of\u00a0Durham<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0is internationally trained and creates art that has a universal appeal.<\/p>\n

Hinton uses vibrant colors that awaken the soul and illustrate a theme of cultural transformation through her unique southeastern Native American imagery.<\/p>\n

Within her work, she is investigating on many levels and challenging conventional parameters of \u201cexpected\u201d Indian imagery.<\/p>\n

Her themes reflect an attempt to untangle a complicate web of events pertaining to the displacement of her Tuscarora\/ Osage ancestors.<\/p>\n

The narrative earth conscious works in \u201cThe Awakening Series\u201d speak to the preservation of indigenous traditions, bringing to light aspects of a distinct but under represented southeastern Native experience, one whose basic world view is rooted in ancient Mississippian mound culture.<\/p>\n

On Friday, March 7, the \u2018Meet the Artist\u2019 event will be held for the show from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Kirby Cultural Arts Complex at 213 N Main Street.<\/span><\/p>\n

During this event, Hinton will give a talk about her work.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is also a special event in which the public is invited to come to the gallery for snacks and conversation with the artist about her work.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each month the Kirby Gallery welcomes artists to display their work for the public\u2019s enjoyment and education.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Arts Council of\u00a0Person County<\/span>, Person County Recreation, Arts and Parks and Piedmont Community College sponsor the Kirby Gallery.<\/span><\/p>\n
