UCC Ireland to House Circuit Board Thunderbird. My\u00a0conglomerate sculpture “Circuit Board Thunderbird”<\/strong> has been purchased and will\u00a0be placed on permanent display at UCC (University College Cork, Cork Ireland) at the\u00a0George Boole Library<\/a>. This piece (part of my\u00a0conglomerate sculpture series)<\/a> will be completed in time to be included in\u00a0the George Boole Bicentenary Celebration (1815-2015) event along with the central medicine wheel from my “Indigenous Iconic Earth Altar” fiber installation (see below).<\/p>\n

Circuitboard Thunderbird comes to completion<\/p><\/div>\n

The Thunderbird of the upper world, with its\u2019 customary lightening bolt, is the quintessential Native American icon.<\/i> It tells of the original creation of the universe through electricity (life energy). Here I symbolized its creative electrical force by using circuit board and copper coil imagery. I took it upon myself to update the Thunderbird in this fashion as a way to illustrate the power of this mythical being while demonstrating Indigenous survival and continued cultural identification in the digital era. This contemporary high-tech bird represents a balanced amalgamation of ancient knowledge with modern technology\u00a0and\u00a0has a\u00a0unique association with<\/i>\u00a0Great Great Grand Dad, George Boole.<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Octagonal “Tesseract Medicine Wheel”<\/strong> from my I.I.E.A. altar\u00a0will be on exhibit at the\u00a0Boole Library from August 21-28th as part\u00a0of a bicentenary\u00a0celebration (1815-2015) of George Boole.\u00a0This ongoing event is taking\u00a0place at the University College Cork (UCC),\u00a0where he was\u00a0Professor of Mathematics.\u00a0Known as the forefather of the Information Age, Boole was a mathematical genius who was largely self-taught. His appointment as the first Professor of Mathematics at this college in 1849 provided the opportunity to develop his most important work,\u00a0An Investigation of the Laws of Thought<\/em>.\u00a0This gigantic celebration features a\u00a0Genealogy project, renovation of Boole\u2019s former home to be used as a centre for scientific innovation and incubation,\u00a0major international conferences in mathematics and computer science,\u00a0UCC Library exhibitions of Boole papers and artefacts, educational\u00a0outreach, a\u00a0documentary of Boole\u2019s life and legacy, commissioned\u00a0artistic installation\u00a0and musical composition, and the founding of a\u00a0new research institute during 2015, as The UCC George Boole Institute, to foster interdisciplinary research in Boole-related disciplines. The UCC Glucksman Gallery will host an exhibition of art works relating to Boolean themes.<\/div>\n
