New Video Ready to Roll…
Stano Story-Telling Collaboration featured in “Creative Concepts” Teaching Travelogue Part 2-Exploring Cork & Dublin
…using tracks from his recent CDs, my new video features a story-telling collaboration with the legendary Dublin Recording Artist and Abstract Painter STANO:
This story-telling collaboration was one in a series of similar projects by Stano entitled “In Between Silence.” An initiative involving personal stories narrated by Irish artists and interwoven with Stano’s mesmerizing sound tracks.
I told the story of my journey back to my heritage and the land of my ancestors from Eastern North Carolina. I can’t wait to hear what he does with it!
Stay tuned for the finished soundtrack to be included in an upcoming post!
Stano Story-Telling Collaboration, An Audio Collage Experiment:
For both Part 1 and Part 2 of the travelogue video, Stano generously allowed me free use of the music from three of his recent CDs. This made for a very integrated project, which was interesting to make. It is, for lack of a better description, an audio collage experiment done in iMovie.
Consider visiting Stano’s web site to find out more about “In Between Silence.” While you’re there, check out his full discography:
A Little Background Info:
In 2015, the descendants of George Boole, which includes my extended family, were invited to the “Boole 200” Bicentenary Celebration (1815-2015), at University College Cork (UCC), Ireland, where he was Professor of Mathematics. Known as the forefather of the Information Age, Boole, the son of a shoemaker, was largely self-taught.
…”George Boole was a mystic genius, whose ideas have utterly transformed the world in which we live. Computers, information storage and retrieval systems, electronic circuits and almost the entire world of present-day technology depend vitally on the simple but ingenious mathematics he invented – Boolean Algebra.”
-Desmond MacHale
During this 2015 trip I exhibited two art pieces and gave a lecture at the Boole Library. One of these works, “Circuit Board Thunderbird” was purchased for the library board room. The other piece, “Tesseract Medicine Wheel” was on display in the library for the duration of the “Boole 200” celebrations.
I returned to UCC in May of 2017 to deliver a five part creativity workshop designed to help students and staff of varied levels and disciplines stretch their imaginations. This experience was covered in the “Creative Concepts” Teaching Travelogue Video Part 1
Part 2 of the “Creative Concepts” Travelogue documents time spent exploring Cork and Dublin after delivering the “Creative Concepts” workshop.
George Boole’s Former Home:
The restoration of Boole’s home at 5 Grenville Place, by the city of Cork, was one of the key projects in UCC’s “Boole 200” series of events back in 2015.
Prior to this, it was in a severely dilapidated condition, and without so much as a roof !
This building figures prominently at the end of the video, which also features a painting that was created for me by one of the workshop participants. It depicts the vandalized doorway before renovations:
…SO BE SURE TO WATCH THE VIDEO ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO WITNESS A STUNNING TRANSFORMATION OF THIS PROPERTY, SIGNALING A NEW DAY FOR BOOLE’S LEGACY !
