WINTER 2019- D.I.Y. ODYSSEY 2 STUDIO RENOVATION UPDATE (ANOTHER GLIMPSE BEHIND THE SCENES)
FINISHING A WINDOW FRAME:
Welcome to “Trash to Treasure a D.I.Y. Odyssey 2”! This is another update on my posts “Heavenly White Space” and “An artists This Old House” from last fall.
I told you in D.I.Y. Part 1 that I’d show you how I built a window frame in my studio. I had to finish this last window frame myself because I ran out of money to pay the contractor I had hired.
Mine isn’t quite as pretty as the frames he finished, but luckily I was able to learn how to do it by helping him build them.
A RATHER ROUGH WINDOW OPENING:
After framing with 2×4 planks and then drywalling, I ended up with a rather rough and “raw” window opening:
MEASURE THRICE, CUT ONCE!
The first step is to cut and measure special planks to create an inner frame. Measuring needs to be very accurate because this frame will need to fit ever-so-snugly into the rough opening:
FINAL TOUCH:
The next step is to create another frame with more narrow planks that lay flush against the wall. Notice the quarter-inch inset! This is a very basic old fashioned method:
