Alyssa Hinton is Meredith’s Mercer-Kesler lecturer and visiting artist this year. This lecture series invites scholars in the areas of visual arts, architecture, and religion to speak at Meredith on their fields

SEPTEMBER 24 EVENTS: The artist’s Mercer-Kesler lecture will be held as a Zoom Webinar on September 24th 4:30-5:30pm followed by an in-person, registration-only Opening Reception in Gaddy Hamrick Weems Gallery 5:30-7:00pm.

The  Zoom Webinar  will feature music by Dark Water Rising, an award-winning Native American band, whose familial roots in Southeastern North Carolina, not only define their kinship as a musical group, but also their sound. Lead singer Charly Lowry is an activist for Lumbee and Native American rights and uses music not only to bring attention to the causes she supports, but also to celebrate her cultural background.

*Please note the artist reception event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Due to Covid-19, registration is required to attend all in person events held on Meredith College’s campus. All admittance to campus is regulated by campus security at the main entrance.
