EVENT- Water Walk 2024

“Underwater Panther-Red Earth”

Dear Treasured Friends and Followers,

This weekend’s 2024 Water Walk to protect sacred places & phase out fossil fuels was amazing! This is an ancient indigenous practice to pray for and give thanks to Water, especially relevant now, given our worldwide climate crisis.

Saturday’s 4.5 mile Water Walk is also an act of resistance to very specific local fossil fuel projects, namely, the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP), MVP Southgate, Moriah LNG Facility, and Buc-ee’s. The entire ecosystem of the Piedmont region is at stake and our ecosystems have a right to exist and be safeguarded!

Many thanks to 7 Directions of Service who organized this event in their usual highly adept fashion allowing all to peacefully touch ground for many hours along the Dan River and leading to the sacred site of Lower Saur Town.

I was absolutely thrilled that my piece “Underwater Panther-Red Earth” was used for the poster and pins. More on the panther image below.

Gathering at Draper’s Landing
(Banks of the Dan River, Eden, NC)

As folks gathered, the day commenced with free healthy breakfast foods (by Seeds of Peace Mobile Kitchen), conversation, much anticipation and the greeting of old friends.

We all got free “Protect Sacred Spaces” and “Phase Out Fossil Fuels” bandanas along with pins with my “Underwater Panther-Red Earth” image on it.

Opening Event

For the opening event there were guest speakers and art, along with songs and poems of unity and resistance!

4.5 Mile Walk

Here’s a couple of shots of our slow and steady (and very peaceful) 4.5 mile walk along the Dan River and the sacred site of Lower Saur Town. Some of us ended up in that white van or another car before it was all over and done with!

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading.

Take care and you’ll be hearing from me soon!

Love, Alyssa
